James Joyce in Judapest



Bloomsday – connections with Hungary
Leopold Bloom is the leading character of „Ulysses”, the famous novel of James Joyce. His father, Rudolf Virág, was a Hungarian Jew according to the story, who emigrated from Szombathely to Dublin. Bloomsday has been organised at Szombathely since 1994. It is held in the Iseum (the ruins of a temple consecrated to Isis) and since 1997 in 40-41. Fõ street. This house was indeed owned by a family named Blum.
