The New Yorker's latest issue – Let’s spot the literary references!

For the June 8, 2026, Fiction Issue cover, the artists Sergio García Sánchez and Lola Moral collaborated on a shared vision of a life filled with books, enjoyed by a whole community. The two work in close partnership: he draws, she applies the colors, and they develop their ideas together. “Our home is literally filled with books in every room, even the bathroom. We and our children read them, study them, live with and among them,” the couple told us. They quoted Federico García Lorca, a writer from their home town of Granada, Spain: “No sólo de pan vive el hombre. Yo, si tuviera hambre y estuviera desvalido en la calle no pediría un pan; sino que pediría medio pan y un libro.” His words translate to: “Man does not live by bread alone. If I were hungry and destitute on the street, I would not ask for a loaf of bread; I would ask for half a loaf and a book.”

I Know That Voice (2013). Available on streaming.

In my case, I know a few of these voice actors because they're "also face actors" (well, apart from The Simpsons's, who doesn't remember a few names from its end credits but has never seen their faces?) "A documentary co-produced by John DiMaggio (who also narrates). It centers on the behind-the-scenes process of voice acting, featuring interviews of many voice actors (a lot of whom you may recognize from many Western animated TV series, English anime dubs, and video games) and the entire entourage of people responsible for getting voices from studio to premiere. It also covers the history of voice acting and shows how professional voice acting is still going strong in an age when live-action celebrities (most of whom can't voice act very well) are brought in to do voice-work, as well as voice acting in video games and anime dubbing." From The New York Times     Chris (Simpsons artist)                 As someone in the word business, I’m often asked to weigh in on the question of literature and artificial intelligence. People are usually surprised when I admit that I love A.I. I use A.I. for everything, 24/7. I can’t get enough, me and my whole family. My uncle uses A.I. to buy onions. It used to be you wanted onions, you went to the store and maybe it was full of people, or it was empty — you literally never knew. Now A.I. can calculate when the grocery store is low-traffic, and my uncle just strolls in, la-di-da, and buys onions, no waiting. Imagine a world where you don’t have to wait to buy onions. It’s here. I have this digital agent. Does everything for me, from managing work flow to offloading repetitive tasks to reminding me when to hug my kids. I call it the Gooch. The Gooch is up all night, scrabbling around its binary habit trail, what’s-upping m...

Hellelil and Hildebrand + The Queen and The Soldier

Imagem
From BBC Culture :  Forget Romeo and Juliet or Rose and Jack: Frederic William Burton's achingly beautiful depiction of Hellelil and Hildebrand's last moment together will stay with you forever. So say the painting's many new fans on social media, where it has been stratospherically popular. Though it dates back to the 19th Century, a surge of TikTok videos about viewing The Meeting on the Turret Stairs – both online and in real life – has gone viral, describing the painting as "a breathless moment" and "life changing".  It might have been made the most vulgar thing in the world, [but] the artist has raised it to the highest pitch of refined emotion – George Eliot Painted in large, vivid swathes of red and blue, Burton's 1864 watercolour Hellelil and Hildebrand, The Meeting on the Turret Stairs boldly illustrates the couple's final tryst before Hildebrand's painful death. Here, the prince meets with the love of his life, Helleli...
